I really disagree with the way premesis on which y'all discuss blame for the shutdown. Saying "democrats shut the government down" by not voting for the budget bill implies that, by default, they would vote for whatever budget bill the Republicans made, and have now made a decision to not do that. That should not be the assumption. And, this is also the case when Republicans have been in the minority.
I'm sure most people aren't thinking about it this much, as you said, but that doesn't mean it have to like it.
