Your comments are incredibly salient, Galen, as I too lament the lack of community that we, as social creatures, crave and need. I think many of our society's problems stem from loneliness and consequently fill that void from perceived community online. Which is an inferior substitute IMO. As someone also currently single and works mostly solo, I feel this acutely, and consider myself lucky that I do have some real-life communities of friends --albeit only getting together irregularly--whereas many folks don't even have that. I have appreciated the gang at 538, and now the GD podcast, as a way to feel like I can nerd out politically with friends when I can't do so in real life! Here's hoping you, and all of us in society, figure out ways to battle this isolation epidemic and the weakening of our IRL communities and social bonds. Keep up the good work!
