Sorry all to be quite late here, only catching up in January. I'm an American living in the UK so it is great to hear UK experts in conversation with Galen! Ouch - i was a bit shocked by how harsh David Runciman and Helen Thompson are here. I'm not a huge fan of Labour generally (except for the late Tony Benn), but Starmer and Reeves seem to be doing about the same as Rishi Sunak and Jeremy Hunt were just before them. Both seem like cases of party moderates unable to rise above holding a poor economic hand, whatever their political talents and weaknesses. Sure, a few bold convictions would help; more follow-through would help, too.
An excellent discussion, and thanks for the UK focussed edition. Helen Thompson’s critique of Starmer was harsh but succeeded in shifting my own view.
I love love love LOVE the historic 538 podcast interviews / your interviews with the Talking Politics team.
Thanks for covering the UK. Love from Dover in Kent
